Mrs Wavne Rikkers
Wavne Rikkers is a Senior Research Officer at The University of Western Australia. She played a key role in Answering the Call, the National Survey of the Mental Health and Wellbeing of Police and Emergency Services, co-funded by Beyond Blue and the Bushfire & Natural Hazards Cooperative Research Centre. She is now co-Chief Investigator of After the Fires, a national study measuring the impacts of the 2019-20 ‘Black Summer’ bushfire season on the mental health and wellbeing of those who fought the fires, both paid and volunteer. Wavne is also undertaking a doctorate into the barriers to help-seeking among first responders with mental health issues.
Previously, Wavne worked at the Australian Bureau of Statistics (1981-2010), gaining expertise across numerous statistical subject areas and methodologies, particularly in price indexes, and census data. She spent 5 years as Director, Client and Statistical Services, when she pioneered the development of metadata standards for Australian government statistical holdings. She provided statistical advice and expertise to the highest levels of government, ensuring evidence-based policy development and the development of good quality KPIs. During her career, sat on numerous inter-governmental working groups on data sharing between agencies or using data for forecasting purposes or policy evaluation.
