The mining industry presents a unique and complex emergency management landscape—remote operations, hazardous environments, and high-value assets demand a response capability that is both agile and robust. This presentation explores the evolving nature of emergency response within mining, drawing on lessons from recent incidents and innovations in preparedness across Western Australia's Pilbara region.

Focusing on integrated response frameworks, the session will highlight how mining operations are aligning with national emergency management standards while adapting to site-specific risks such as hot tyre heat events, cyclone threats, and remote medical emergencies. It will also examine the benefits of mutual aid across mining companies in enhancing situational awareness and operational resilience.

Attendees will gain insights into how mining organisations are embedding emergency management into their operational culture—through training, technology, and partnerships with local emergency services. The session will conclude with reflections on future challenges and opportunities for the sector, including renewables risks, workforce capability, and community engagement.
