FireSat in action: How Australian fire experts are contributing to the future of global fire monitoring
Following the successful launch of the FireSat0 protoflight satellite in March 2025, the system has begun capturing fire imagery to validate sensor performance, data pipelines, and user workflows. Through Earth Fire Alliance's Early Adopter Program, Australian agencies will be testing FireSat data products in operational contexts, generating critical insights into usability, data accuracy, and the integration of satellite data into local, national, and regional decision-support frameworks.
FireSat demonstrates how nonprofit-led, open-access, transformative data from global satellite systems—co-developed with end users —can accelerate transformation in wildfire management. By positioning space-based wildfire data as a public-good service, developed through international collaboration and community stewardship, FireSat offers a scalable model for next-generation fire science that bridges space technology, local knowledge, and global resilience.
