About Jamie Bertram
Jamie joined the RFS as a volunteer of the Karangi Rural Fire Brigade in 1988. He remained as an active member whilst still working for the Forestry in the Urunga District, Jamie held numerous field based positions whilst with the forestry his last 10 years as a Team Leader with the Ecology Unit conducting pre harvest threatened species across the North East Region of the state. Jamie worked his way up through the volunteer ranks from fire fighter to Senior Deputy Captain and Brigade Captain for 13 years and Group Captain 10 years. Jamie became a staff member with the RFS in 2008 as a Fire Mitigation Officer based in the Mid North Coast Team which takes in the Coffs Harbour and Bellingen Shires. Jamie’s focus has been working and engaging with Aboriginal Communities and has a strong connection to country and its indigenous custodians as he is a Wiradjuri descendant. Jamie has been instrumental in delivering fire fighter training programs to Aboriginal Ranger Teams attached to Indigenous Protected Areas and Local Aboriginal Lands Councils across the Northeast Corner of the state. Jamie has extensive operational experience in incident management, planning and operations. Jamie is an Air Observer and Heavy Plant Operations manager and has been tasked into Tasmania, South Australia, and Victoria in IMT rolls..
