About Emily Sexton
Emily Sexton is a cross-disciplinary curator from Melbourne, and Artistic Director of Arts House, Melbourne’s centre for contemporary performance. Her previous roles include Head of Programming for the Wheeler Centre for Books, Writing and Ideas (2014-17), Artistic Director of Next Wave (2010-14) and Creative Producer of Melbourne Fringe (2008-10). Emily was awarded a Sidney Myer Creative Fellowship in 2014. She is an alumni of the Australia Council for the Arts Leadership Program (2018) as well as their Emerging Leaders Program (2011). Emily has been a proud Board Member for Arena Theatre Company, Snuff Puppets and Theatre Network Victoria. She is a regular peer assessor for the Australia Council for the Arts, Creative Victoria, and other philanthropic trusts and foundations, and in 2019 is a Judge for the Ian Potter ACMI Moving Image Commission. Emily holds a Bachelor of Arts (Media and Communications, English) from the University of Sydney (2005). She is a regular host and facilitator for arts organisations and writers festivals across Australia, and often co-hosts radio for ABC Melbourne. www.emilyjsexton.com Across Emily's curatorial work is an abiding interest in international exchange, reciprocity and collaboration. She has initiated multiyear exchanges between emerging interdisciplinary artists from Australia and Europe, presented high profile writers and thinkers in 2000+ seat venues, hosted artists from Taiwan, Singapore and Indonesia as part of artist-led residencies and participated in multiple programs that incorporate participants from throughout the Asia-Pacific region. She has long maintained a commitment to the empowerment and programming of First Nations artists, which is reflected in much of her proudest curatorial work.
