The Next Frontier in Firefighter Wellness: Smarter Alerting Systems

19 Aug 2026
Response Operations

Firefighters are up to 14.1x more likely to die from a heart attack during alarm response than during non-emergency duties. The alerting system doesn’t have to be so jarring.

This presentation will explore how modern alerting technologies can improve health and efficiency of alarm response, while reducing unnecessary sleep disruptions. We will discuss the relationship between alerting practices, sleep quality, fatigue, stress, and long-term health risks, while demonstrating how modern wearable and mobile alerting solutions enable personnel-specific notifications and reduce station-wide disruptions.

Participants will gain practical insights into implementing next-generation alerting systems that support firefighter readiness, operational effectiveness, recruitment and retention efforts, and overall workforce wellness without compromising emergency response performance.
