Research Fellow , Monash University
Dr Adriana Keating is a Research Fellow at Monash University, specialising in the human dimensions of disasters. A systems thinker whose applied research focuses on enabling systems change to strengthen community disaster resilience, she works at the science-policy-practice interface with over 15 years of experience in the disaster field. Adriana was Research Fellow for Systems Change with the award-winning Fire to Flourish Program, and is currently Research Lead with Flood to Flourish. Adriana is passionate about taking the harm out of the system before the next extreme event, and has deep networks both locally and globally to generate knowledge and amplify the voices of those at the front lines of the climate crisis. Her research engages directly with communities, agencies, governments and emergency services to shift practice away from top-down, technocratic approaches and towards genuinely community-centred disaster resilience practice. She is an expert in applying social-ecological systems theory for disaster resilience assessment and measurement, community-based post-disaster learning, and supporting transformational change. Adriana is a Guest Research Scholar with the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA), Austria. Adriana holds a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science from Monash University, a Master of International and Development Economics from the Australian National University, and a Doctorate in Socioeconomics from the Vienna University of Business and Economics.
