Assoc/Professor Surjan leads research, teaching and training programs with a strong focus on challenges facing northern and remote Australia, including Indigenous / community lead emergency management, disaster and climate resilience. His work bridges research and practice through close collaboration with emergency services, governments and communities across Australia and the Asia-Pacific. He is internationally recognised for his contribution as a Lead Author for the IPCC’s Fifth Assessment Report on Climate Change and contributor to the UN’s Global Assessment Report on Disaster Risk Reduction.
