Dr Barbara Ryan is an award-winning communicator with over 40 years experience in practice and research. She was journalist, communication consultant and in-house comms manager, and university teacher and researcher. Her research focuses on communication and human behaviour in disaster and she is currently contracted by Routledge for a book on community engagement for disaster management to be published next year.
She is a volunteer firefighter and community educator with her local Queensland Rural Fire Service brigade and a member of the RFS state advisory committee. She is a member of the College of Fellows for both Communication and Public Relations Australia (CPRA) and Emergency Media and Public Affairs (EMPA).
