David Vanderhorst is a highly experienced emergency services vehicle specialist and manufacturing leader with extensive expertise in the design, integration, and delivery of complex firefighting and emergency response vehicles. With a trade background in fabrication and vehicle body building, he has spent his career working at the intersection of operational firefighting requirements, engineering, manufacturing, and project delivery.
David provides strategic leadership across major emergency service vehicle programs, overseeing project delivery from concept development through to operational deployment. His experience encompasses aerial appliances, pumpers, tankers, rescue vehicles, and specialist response platforms, providing him with a comprehensive understanding of both frontline operational challenges and the technical solutions required to address them. Recognised for his ability to bridge the gap between operational needs and practical engineering outcomes, David has worked closely with fire and emergency service agencies, industry partners, and manufacturing teams to deliver innovative, compliant, and operationally effective vehicle solutions.
He is particularly passionate about advancing firefighter safety, improving operational capability, and ensuring emergency services have access to equipment that is fit for the increasingly complex environments in which they operate. Today, David will present on the benefits of aerial firefighting platforms compared with traditional turntable ladder appliances, drawing on his practical experience in vehicle design, emergency service operations, and the evolving demands placed on modern firefighting fleets.
