Derren Halleday
Derren Halleday is Chief of Staff (Deputy State Controller) and Manager, Volunteer Capacity within the South Australian State Emergency Service (SA SES). Nationally he is the Deputy Chair of the Volunteer Management Technical Group and an experienced National Resource Sharing Centre Deployment Manager. With SA SES, Derren plays a critical leadership role in coordinating emergency response and public safety messaging across SA and has been a spokesperson during major weather and flood events, providing guidance to communities on preparedness, safety, and recovery. Derren has overseen and authorised operational coordination and public communication during significant incidents, contributed to broader emergency management efforts and supporting community preparedness initiatives in high-risk regions.
Derren has actively promoted the use of operational technologies within SES responses, including the deployment of drones to assess flood risks and communicate directly with the public in real time emergency situations. Beyond Strategic Command, his work includes a strong focus on community resilience and volunteer capability, leading programs and partnerships designed to improve preparedness and strengthen the capacity of SES volunteers and the communities they serve. Through his leadership, Derren contributes to the SA SES mission of delivering emergency response, supporting disaster resilience, and protecting communities across SA.
