"Eane Watson is a Firefighter, respiratory scientist, and Research Higher Degree candidate whose work investigates what physiological, psychological, and behavioural factors influence breathing efficiency among firefighters using personal protective equipment—including self‑contained breathing apparatus—during real‑world, task‑based training, high‑fidelity simulation, and operational firefighting activities. His research integrates respiratory physiology, human factors, and frontline operational experience to better understand how breathing under load affects safety, endurance, and decision‑making in high‑pressure environments.

With a focus on translating evidence into practice, Eane examines how heat stress, workload, autonomic regulation, cognitive load, anxiety, and behavioural breathing patterns shape air consumption and respiratory performance on the fireground. His work also highlights the unique challenges faced by women and gender‑diverse firefighters, ensuring that respiratory strategies and operational recommendations are inclusive, practical, and grounded in lived experience.

Eane’s broader aim is to bridge the gap between academic research and frontline application—developing simple, actionable breathing strategies that enhance resilience, protect cognitive clarity, and support safer, more efficient SCBA strategies.
