Environmental Science Policy Management Department, University of California Berkeley
Elizabeth Hoover is an anthropologist who works as an associate professor in the Environmental Science Policy Management (ESPM) Department at the University of California, Berkeley. She is also a student of fire and has worked with several Prescribed Burn Associations (PBAs) across California; attended TREXs (Prescribed Fire Training Exchanges) in California, Nebraska, Missouri, South Carolina, Portugal, Poland, and Mexico; and worked on wildfires on a contract engine crew and an on-call federal hand crew. Her past work has centered on food sovereignty and environmental justice, and her current work focuses on the experience of women leaders working in wildfire; how prescribed burn associations in California are navigating challenges and forming collaborations in order to meet prescribed fire goals; and on international collaborations around wildland fire. When she’s not teaching at the university or working on fires, Professor Hoover leads a volunteer shift at a community farm and spars at a Muay Thai gym.
