Erin Liston-Abel

Former Deputy Chief Executive Officer, AFAC
Erin Liston-Abel MBA GAICD is the Deputy Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director at AFAC, the National Fire and Emergency Services Council for Australia and New Zealand. Erin is a senior executive with over 25 years’ experience in state governments and member-based organisations within the public safety, community services and emergency management sectors. Erin is Vice President on the Women in Firefighting Australasia Board, Chair of the Governance and Risk Committee and serves as an independent on the Respect 360 Tasmania Fire Service Steering Committee . She holds a Master of Business Administration, a Graduate Diploma in International Relations and a Bachelor of Arts, and is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Erin has accountability for sector-wide DEI initiatives, including the strategic relationship with the Champions of Change Coalition and leadership of the AFAC Diversity and Inclusion Group. Through this work, Erin supports the implementation of practical, evidence-based actions to advance gender equity, inclusive workplaces, and cultural change across the fire and emergency management sector.

Erin is a strong advocate for DEI and is widely recognised for driving systemic change through collaboration, governance and leadership. Erin is deeply committed to amplifying the voices and lived experiences of women and underrepresented groups, improving outcomes for vulnerable people within the LGBTIQA+ community, and embedding inclusion as a core enabler of safe, equitable and high-performing organisations.
