Julie Best is an accomplished senior leader and finance professional with more than 30 years’ experience across the South Australian Government and private sector. As Executive Director and Chief Financial Officer at the South Australian Fire and Emergency Services Commission (SAFECOM), Julie provides strategic leadership across finance, procurement, asset management, and ministerial services, supporting critical operations across the state’s emergency services sector.
Julie is known for her ability to lead high-performing teams, navigate complex government environments, and deliver strong financial governance and strategic outcomes. She has extensive experience working with Ministers, Boards, Chief Executives, and senior stakeholders, providing expert advice on funding, policy, and organisational performance. Julie has also driven significant business improvements, strengthened compliance frameworks, and supported major budget and policy initiatives.
She holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting/Commercial Law) and also contributes widely as an independent member on audit and risk committees and sector governance groups, reflecting her strong commitment to public sector excellence and community outcomes.
