Kristy Butler
Lead Data Scientist,
Country Fire Authority
Kristy Butler is a Lead Data Scientist at the Country Fire Authority in the Research, Innovation and Predictive Capability team. After graduating with engineering and geography degrees, Kristy spent five years working as a consultant transport planner and data analyst, developing analysis workflows to solve logistics and transport problems for governments and private companies. Since 2021, she has been working at CFA on research into firefighting operations, including wildfire suppression and defensive firefighting. Some of her recent work has been to quantify time spent on activities at firegrounds and developing categories that describe the sensitivity of fires to resourcing at initial attack. Kristy is also a Fire Behaviour Analyst and operational firefighter; and has a special interest in building datasets and models that reflect the reality of the fire agencies’ operations.
