Libby Symons

Diversity and Inclusion Lead, Fire Rescue Victoria

Libby is a passionate advocate for creating psychologically safe, inclusive, and respectful environments where everyone feels they belong and can perform at their best. She works to build organisational capability to remove systemic barriers to inclusion, both in the workplace and in the services delivered to communities.

Taking an intersectional approach grounded in the principle of "nothing about us without us", Libby champions the voices and lived experiences of those who have been traditionally marginalised. She is known for embracing different perspectives, leveraging diversity of thought and respectfully challenging assumptions and bias to enable others to develop a growth mindset that can drive positive outcomes.

She has a decade of experience implementing diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives in the emergency management sector and is currently leading the implementation of Fire Rescue Victoria's inaugural Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Strategy. Libby has almost 24 years' experience across Victoria's emergency management sector, including roles with Victoria State Emergency Service, the Country Fire Authority and Fire Rescue Victoria.
