Marianne Foley

Marianne Foley is a Principal Fire Safety Engineer, specialising in the development of innovative performance based solutions for fire safety. Marianne has a PhD in fire safety from the University of Edinburgh. She has over 25 years of global experience in performance based fire engineering across transport infrastructure and buildings, including award winning and high profile projects such as the Water Cube in Beijing, 50 Martin Place, Martin Place Metro, Western Sydney Airport, and the Sydney Opera House. In 2016 she was awarded ‘one of Australia’s 100 most innovative engineers’ by Engineers Australia in these inaugural awards. In 2018 she became an Arup Fellow, a position nominated by members of Arup for technical and design excellence, and ability to innovate. She has been a consultant to government through the cladding crisis, as Deputy Chair of the Cladding Products Safety Panel for the NSW Building Commissioner and was a member of the Fire Advisory Panel to the Heritage Council of NSW for a decade. Marianne has also led various parts of Arup’s business, run the NSW business for TSA Riley, and served on various boards including Arup’s Australasian Board, the NSW Architects Registration Board, and the Institution of Fire Engineers Australia.
