Matt Heap
Matt is a Media and Communications Officer with the NSW State Emergency Service, bringing more than 15 years of experience turning complex ideas into clear, compelling
stories and messaging. Known for his creative streak and energetic approach, Matt recently led the development of the NSW SES Steer Clear campaign, reshaping how drivers think about risk and urging them to “turn around and find another way” when facing floodwaters.
Before joining the NSW SES, Matt worked with the Office of the Chief Scientist and the National Museum of Australia, where he refined his knack for strategic comms and campaigns that resonate. He holds a Bachelor of Journalism from the University of Wollongong and a Graduate Diploma in Radio & Podcasting from AFTRS, fuelling his passion for storytelling in every format.
