Melanie Gill
Melanie Gill is the Assistant Chief Officer – Emergency Management Planning with the Victoria State Emergency Service (VICSES), bringing more than a decade of experience in emergency and disaster management across Victoria.
Throughout her career at VICSES, Melanie has held a range of leadership and specialist roles spanning emergency management planning, public information and warnings, community resilience, and regional operations. She is an accredited Level 3 Public Information Officer and is deeply passionate about community liaison during emergencies, ensuring timely, clear and actionable information reaches those who need it most. She has also served as a Volunteer, including a number of Deputy Controller positions for over ten years, contributing directly to operational response and community safety during emergencies.
Melanie’s work focuses on strengthening emergency management planning and enhancing the capability of agencies and organisations to prepare for, respond to, and recover from emergencies. She is committed to building integrated, evidence-based systems that connect risk, planning, intelligence, and operations, while also ensuring communities are informed, connected, and empowered to respond effectively.
She holds graduate qualifications in humanitarian leadership and emergency and disaster management, reflecting her strong commitment to professional development and sector leadership.
A passionate and collaborative leader, Melanie is committed to using research, evidence, and partnerships to build safer, more resilient communities and to support capability uplift across the emergency management sector.
