Associate Professor Melissa Parsons is a resilience scientist across the areas of disaster science and emergency management, river science and urban and regional planning. Melissa led the development of two rounds of the Australian Disaster Resilience Index (ADRI-1 and ADRI-2), collaborating Australia-wide with emergency service and disaster management agencies. She is a Chief Investigator on the Equip program, which is implementing a psychologically-based disaster preparedness program across 9 Australian sites. Melissa also does research into climate and disaster eco-anxiety and natural hazard risk perception. Melissa has served for 5 years as the Editor-In-Chief of the Australian Journal of Emergency Management, and her research about how emergency service personnel manage menstruation while deployed operationally was published in that journal in 2024.
