Emergency Response Officer, Office of Te Beretitenti

Ms Taala Tiaeki is an Emergency Response Officer with the Disaster Risk Management and Climate Change Unit under the Office of Te Beretitenti (Office of the President), Kiribati. She has been involved in disaster risk management and emergency response since 2022, supporting the Government of Kiribati in strengthening national preparedness, response coordination, and community resilience to disasters and climate-related emergencies.

Prior to joining the Office of Te Beretitenti, Ms Tiaeki served as an Assistant Secretary and Project Officer with the Ministry of Environment, Lands and Agricultural Development (MELAD), where she gained extensive experience in public administration, project coordination, stakeholder engagement, and monitoring and evaluation. Her professional background also includes laboratory experience with the Ministry of Health and Medical Services, providing her with a solid understanding of public health systems and scientific processes.

Ms Tiaeki holds a Bachelor of Health Science from Bond University, Australia. Her studies focused on health communication, leadership, critical thinking, human nutrition, ethical practice, and public health, providing a strong multidisciplinary foundation that supports her work in disaster risk management and humanitarian coordination.

Throughout her career, Ms Tiaeki has supported a range of national and regional initiatives aimed at enhancing emergency preparedness, humanitarian logistics, disaster response coordination, and climate resilience. She has worked alongside regional and international partners to strengthen institutional capacity and promote coordinated approaches to disaster risk reduction and emergency management.
