Shelby Robinson

Community Researcher and Advocate , School of Population Health, Curtin University
Shelby Robinson is a passionate leader in emergency management, disaster resilience and peer support, dedicated to building resilient, community-informed systems across Western Australia. Grounded in a background in social services, Shelby blends practical emergency management experience with a trauma‑informed, person‑centred approach to community support and crisis navigation. Shelby is deeply committed to embedding lived experience into emergency management practice and policy, recognising that sustainable change is driven not only by frontline action but by the systems, frameworks and decisions that shape it. Having lived, worked and studied across regional Western Australia—including the Metro, Pilbara, Kimberley, Wheatbelt and Goldfields—Shelby brings a strong understanding of how policy settings impact communities differently across place and context. Guided by values of equity, connection and accountability, Shelby advocates for well‑resourced, peer‑led and community‑driven models that position people as experts in their own lives and partners in long‑term resilience building. Her work emphasises the alignment of policy, practice and local knowledge, ensuring emergency management and disaster resilience efforts are responsive, inclusive and capable of delivering sustainable outcomes for individuals and communities.
