Senior Research Officer, South Australia Country Fire Service

Simeon is one of Australia's leading fire behaviour analysts, with more than 15 years of experience in fire and emergency management across South Australia. His expertise in fire behaviour, combined with a passion for innovation and technology within emergency management, has been instrumental in supporting key advancements across the country. His work has contributed to projects including the fire danger ratings, fire simulation and predictions, remote sensing of grass fuels, modelling fire spread across forests, grasslands and crops. His currently splitting his time between creating a grass curing phone application, trialling Artificial Intelligence into Bushfire Warnings and completing a PhD at RMIT University focused on LIDAR technology to measure bushfire fuels.

His passion for fire management extends well beyond academia. He actively supports the South Australian Country Fire Service in several operational roles, including State Duty Officer, Situation Officer, Air Observer and Aerial Ignition Specialist. Simeon has also applied his expertise nationally and internationally, deploying as a Fire Behaviour Analyst to major disasters across Australia and overseas. He has been deployed to most Australian states for significant bushfire and flood events and has twice supported wildfire operations in Canada.
