Sonya Gray has built her humanitarian expertise through roles across government, the United Nations and international NGOs. She has spent much of her career working alongside communities affected by conflict, disasters and displacement across the Asia‑Pacific, Middle East, Africa and the Pacific. Sonya is driven by a strong commitment to strengthening disaster preparedness, emergency planning and humanitarian responses that are practical, inclusive and shaped by the realities people face during crises.
Sonya currently works with Australian Red Cross as Emergency Services Lead for People at Increased Risk in Emergencies. In partnership with the SA Council of Social Services (SACOSS), and with support from the Disaster Ready Fund, she focuses on strengthening relationships and promoting shared learning across the emergency management and community sectors. This partnership enables Sonya to bring together her strategic expertise and on‑the‑ground experience to help emergency responses better support people experiencing disadvantage.
