Co-Chair , First Nations of South Australian Aboriginal Corporation

Mr Travis Thomas (Nukunu) Travis Thomas has served as Chair in the Nukunu Wapma Thura Aboriginal Corporation, as Co-Lead of the First Nations Clean Energy and Emissions Reduction Advisory Committee to the Federal Government, and as Co-Chair of the First Nations South Australia Aboriginal Corporation, which is a peak body for advocating for First Nations across South Australia. As part of his role, he works with the South Australian Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation Network around Closing the Gap initiatives and advocacy for Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations. He has been advocating and assisting in the advancement of First Nations interests, sharing and protection of culture, the incorporation of these values into policy and practices across multiple sectors, in an effort to generate better outcomes for First Nations. Travis has completed studies in Applied Science in Conservation and Park Management, and leadership. He has undertaken guest lecture roles with a number of universities, at national and international forums, and events including undertaking a visiting research fellowship with the University of South Australia. Other activities include working to create partnerships in community development projects. Travis also has operational experience working in both Defence & the Emergency Services. He has served as a Volunteer Firefighter for over 20 years and has experience in firefighting operations, command and control at significant fires, along with emergencies within South Australia and interstate. Travis enjoys sport, has competed at state, national and international levels, and also enjoys spending time on Country. If he gets spare time he would like to go surfing.
