Trent Nelson
Trent Nelson is a proud Yorta Yorta and Dja Dja Wurrung man he grew up on his grandmother’s country in Shepparton and now lives with his family on his grandfathers’ country in Bendigo in the Murray goldfields district.
Trent currently works for DEECA as the Manager Heritage and Cultural values for Loddon Mallee region.
Within his role Trent works across supporting cultural burning programs with Traditional Owner groups in the region, as well as managing Aboriginal and European heritage protection.
He has worked in land management and emergency management for over 12 years now mainly in the operational fire area as General Fire Fighter, Crew leader and Operations 1 and in the IMT as a Heritage technical Specialist and now is progressing into the Level 1 incident controller field.
He has a keen passion for integrating Cultural burning practices into formal programs across DEECA, including Traditional Owner engagement across the emergency management space.
