AFAC21 Virtual Conference & Exhibition powered by INTERSCHUTZ is Australasia’s largest and most comprehensive emergency management conference and exhibition. Brought to you by AFAC, Deutsche Messe and the Institution of Fire Engineers (Australia). The 2019 conference and exhibition attracted record attendance of over 4,000 emergency management personnel. 

In 2021, for the first time in our 26-year history, the event will take place virtually. Hosted on a state-of-the-art, feature-rich, interactive platform attendees will enjoy 4 days of conference presentations, three days of visually stunning 3D exhibition content and multiple networking opportunities. 

On rotation around Australia’s major cities, our host agencies are the: ACT Emergency Services Agency, ACT Parks and Wildlife Service, Fire and Rescue NSW, Forestry Corporation of NSW, NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service, NSW Rural Fire Service, NSW State Emergency Service.

AFAC21 Virtual Conference & Exhibition will offer you access to over 100 conference presenters – including keynotes – available to watch from the comfort and safety of your home or workplace over 5-8 October 2021. Also available on demand, you will hear from international and local thought leaders across our multi-streamed, AFAC conference, featuring the Institution of Fire Engineers (Australia) National Conference and the Australian Disaster Resilience Conference. Following on from the conferences, the Professional Development Program (PDP) will also be delivered in a virtual environment on 8 October.

Celebrating achievements with industry awards to be presented at AFAC21

The national fire and emergency service sector will acknowledge significant contributions to the industry as part of the Closing and Awards Ceremony at AFAC21.

Join us on Thursday 7 October at 4.30pm, where we will announce the winners of:

  • The AFAC Knowledge Innovation Award acknowledging the advancement of knowledge management and research utilisation by an individual and an agency.  
  • The Laurie Lavelle Achiever of the Year Award recognising an individual who has significantly enhanced the emergency services sector in Australasia. 
  • The Stewart & Heaton Leading Practice in Mental Health Award acknowledging innovative and creative mental health initiatives for first responders in Australia and New Zealand.
  • The Ray Manser IFE Fire Engineering Award recognising an individual who holds up the ideals and aspirations of the IFE and has contributed to the advancement of the profession of fire engineering in Australia. 
  • The Women and Firefighting Australasia Awards recognising outstanding contributions of female firefighters, youth leaders, male champions and organisations for their dedication to diversity, faireness and inclusion. 
  • The AFAC21 Judge’s Choice and People’s Choice Poster Awards, sponsored by the Australian Institute for Disaster Resilience, for the authors of posters presented in the AFAC21 virtual poster gallery. ​​​​
