At AFAC powered by INTERSCHUTZ, we are committed to delivering event experiences that place the attendee at the heart of what we do. We recognise our responsibility as a business and the importance of delivering accessible and inclusive events with a focus on dignified access.

Support Provided

In 2026, our commitment to accessibility continues with the provision of:

  • Open captioning during all conference sessions.

  • Auslan interpreters in keynote sessions, other sessions by prior arrangement, and at the Tuesday evening Welcome & Awards Ceremony.

  • A Sunflower Room for delegates who need a quiet space.

  • Space for mobility aids and support to locate accessible seating in conference rooms.

  • Additional support provided to delegates who have indicated accessibility needs in their registration, to prepare as much as possible prior to the event.

AFAC Conference is a registered member of the Sunflower Initiative and trains staff to prepare to assist attendees where needed. Learn more about the Sunflower Initiative here

Event Accessibility

AFAC26 will be held at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC). By partnering with a venue that endorses the Sunflower Initiative, we are supported by the wealth of resources that the MCEC has available for delegates.

The MCEC is fully accessible, with step-free access throughout the venue, accessible parking, accessible amenities, hearing loops in conference rooms, and dedicated assistance available on request. Visit the MCEC website for more information: https://www.mcec.com.au/plan-your-visit.

What to Expect

AFAC26 is held at the same time as the ADRC, WAFA and IFE conferences.

  • Please check your registration ticket type before you arrive to understand which sessions you can attend.

  • All registered delegates are welcome to attend the Exhibition Hall and access shared venue facilities.

  • Aside from Morning Tea on Tuesday, 18 August, all catering breaks will be held in the Exhibition Hall. This is also your opportunity to explore the hall, visit the AIDR Knowledge Centre, listen to a presentation at the Solutions Theatre Theatre or Resources Rescue Theatre, or watch a live demonstration.

  • Lots of people will be moving around the venue to attend sessions, explore the Exhibition Hall, and queue for refreshments and catering. You may wish to familiarise yourself with the venue online before the event.

What you can do:

  • Indicate on your registration form if you have accessibility and inclusion support needs you wish to share.

  • Expect crowds and plan for this by allowing time to navigate the venue.

  • Arrive a few minutes early for each session so you can choose where you want to sit.

  • Use your program booklet or conference app to plan your conference experience.

  • Bring your mobility aid if you use one.

  • Bring your loop earplugs and fidget aids and use them when you choose to.

  • Wear comfortable shoes and prepare for a lot of walking.

  • Visit the Sunflower Room if you need a quiet space.

Web Accessibility

The AFAC26 website includes a built-in accessibility tool to help you customise your browsing experience. Look for the blue accessibility icon in the bottom left corner of any page on the website. It appears as a person with arms outstretched. Click or tap the icon to open the accessibility menu, where you can adjust settings including text size, contrast, cursor size, and more to suit your needs.

The event app, released closer to the event, is also assessed on its inclusiveness and will include accessibility information for you to browse.

At The Event

If you need directions or assistance during the conference, please feel free to approach:

  • Registration desk staff.

  • Venue staff at the Customer Service desk.

  • Conference volunteers, who will be wearing volunteer shirts.

We appreciate that creating an accessible event experience is an ongoing process, and that you may like to have a confidential discussion about your specific accessibility needs.
