EMSINA presents – Geospatial Intelligence tools in Emergency Management

EMSINA

6 Sept 2024

The Emergency Management Spatial Information Network Australia (EMSINA) have an annual workplan task to pry out the key learnings in the technology space, particularly around the use of location technologies and spatial information. Have we learnt from past disasters? How have emergency management organisations adapted their systems to the pressures of continuous emergencies? What are the new learnings in our rapidly expanding use of spatial technologies?

Spatial Information technologies comprise a range of disciplines which come together to provide valuable input across the Emergency Management sector. More commonly referred to as ‘mapping’, but definitely not just about making maps. Spatial Sciences are at the heart of dispatching, resource allocation, warnings, pre-incident planning, incident statistical reporting, fire & flood modelling, remote sensing, plume modelling, impact assessment, smart devices, machine learning and field mapping - all key decision support areas in emergency management.

Who should attend?

Essentially, anyone who has an involvement with, or is responsible for:

  • Making critical decisions in times of crisis;
  • Incident management personnel who need to know how spatial technologies are best applied for decision support;
  • Mapping of emergencies;
  • Emergency service front line workers interested in progressing mapping technologies to better enhance situational awareness;
  • Public information/media officers;
  • Digital systems champions taking our systems to the next level;
  • Members of the spatial sciences community; and
  • Location technology solution vendors

Recovery to Resilience: Resilient Villages Field Trip in the Blue Mountains

ADRC logo

6 Sept 2024

Join this field trip to learn more about resilience and recovery in the Blue Mountains through the Resilient Villages project.  Visit a Resilience Villages project site - hear from community leaders, see local initiatives in action, and explore community-led resilience building. Resilient Villages is driven by community engagement from a grassroots level;  and works with some of the communities who were worst hit by the 2019/20 bushfires and floods/land-slips in the area.  With the help of the project, they are driving their own journey of recovery, while at the same time building their communities’ resilience.

Who should attend?

Recovery practitioners and policy makers; resilience practitioners and policy makers; researchers; community engagement practitioners; anyone with an interest in community-led recovery and resilience building.

Design to Survive – Fire Engineering and Command Decisions That Save Lives

IFE Logo

6 Sept 2024

This event will examine the correlation between fire engineering principles in building design and incident command decisions made at a fire event.

The workshop will bring senior level incident commanders and fire safety experts together to discuss the critical factors in building design and fire systems within a building to understand the impact they have on a fire’s behaviour within a structure and the flow on effect that this would have for an incident commander making operational decisions on scene. This will be complimented by experts in the decision-making process whilst under pressure.

A key component of this workshop will be a simulated fire event narrated by an incident commander and fire engineer in tandem, examining the development of a fire and the influence of different fire safety design features on the outcomes of the event.

Who should attend?

Fire Engineers, Fire Safety Professionals, Fire Protection Specialists, Fire Service Incident Commanders, Fire Service Leaders, Incident Command Trainers.
